How 89PKR Started — and Where We Are Going
89PKR was not built in a boardroom by people who had never placed a bet in their lives. It was built by a team that genuinely loves cricket, grew up watching PSL matches, and was frustrated by how poorly existing platforms served Pakistani players.
When 89PKR launched in 2019, the experience of online betting for Pakistanis was awkward at best. Most platforms operated in foreign currencies, required bank wire transfers to international accounts and had customer support that knew nothing about Pakistan's cricket season calendar — let alone PSL. Pakistani players were an afterthought in platform designs created for European or American markets.
The founding team at 89PKR set out to fix that. The first decision was that everything would be in PKR. Not a conversion, not an approximation — real Pakistani rupees, deposited directly through the payment methods Pakistanis already use daily: Easypaisa, JazzCash, NayaPay, SadaPay, direct bank transfer and standard Visa or Mastercard. That decision alone changed the experience completely for hundreds of thousands of members who had previously been dealing with exchange rate confusion on every single transaction.
The second decision was games. 89PKR chose to lead with what Pakistani players actually enjoy — cricket betting as the centrepiece, Teen Patti and Andar Bahar in the live casino because these are cultural touchstones in South Asia, and virtual sports for the players who want round-the-clock action without waiting for a live match schedule. The product was designed around real user behaviour, not copied from a generic Western template.
Today, 89PKR serves hundreds of thousands of registered members across Pakistan — from Karachi to Lahore, Peshawar to Quetta, and everywhere in between. The team has grown significantly but the founding principle has not changed: every feature, every update and every decision at 89PKR is made by asking one simple question first — does this make things better for Pakistani players?
